NALG Ben Richter Scholarship

This scholarship is available to graduating seniors

ABOUT

The Ben Richter Scholarship was established in 2025 by the National Association of Left Handed Golfers (NALG) to further the ideals and goals of the man who established the Left Handed Golfers Association.  Ben took it upon himself to contact 1300 golf club professionals and equipment manufacturing representatives to notify lefties that there would be a Left Handed Championship held in St. Louis, Missouri in 1936 at the Norwood Hills Country Club.

Out of the 5,000 names that Richter had accumulated, one hundred forty-seven played.  It was the start of a great organization … building camaraderie, fulfilling the hopes and desires of the lefthanded golfer.

The Ben Richter Scholarship will be awarded to a High School Senior going to a post-secondary institution of their choice.  The scholarship is a one-time $1,000 grant awarded to the recipient’s school of choice in his/her name at the beginning of their second semester.  

REQUIREMENTS

• Left handed golfer
• Graduating senior planning to enroll for the summer, fall or quarter immediately following high school graduation
• Amateur status in all athletics
• Application deadline is March 31

• Scholastic Record
• Short Essay (150 – 300 words double-spaced including education goals, future plans, how golf has influenced your life and your goals.  Judging will be based on topic coverage and content, clarity, organization and grammar)
• Citizenship
