RESULTS
The 2025 Indiana Leftys was heavily impacted by rain! On Thursday night the course received 5 inches of rain. The course superintendent did a fantastic job getting the course playable for a Friday afternoon practice round. After the round everyone enjoyed dinner at the Half Moon.
Saturday's first round was a slow affair. There were players in front of us that pushed our round to over 5 hours. The pins were in difficult positions - a carryover from the Friday big-dollar event. Not only that - they were fast! Scores were high as a result. The only scores under 80 were 79's by Master's participants Al Welch and Dan Townsend. None of the Open division players could beat the 87 scored by eventual winner Alex Summerall.
Saturday night the course received another 1.5 inches of rain. This forced the closing of the back nine. We were lucky to play. The lefties shotgunned on holes 1-3 while another outing started on the other six holes. All would play the front nine twice. As bad luck would have it, a 15 mile-wide swath of rain decided to slooooowly drift by. Although it was very light, The Masters and Grand Masters decided to call it a day. The Open and Senior division continued on. Actually, the rain was within a couple of minutes from being over when the more senior seniors decided to call it quits.
That meant a lot of food for only 10 people that ate. Unfortunately the pulled pork was a little spicy. At least the cookies were good!
The Open division players performed better on Sunday. Summerall and Jon Kelley shot identical 78's leaving Summerall's margin of victory at two strokes. Everyone time Kelley had a chance to cut into the lead Summerall holed a key putt. Loewen Payne kept it close for most of the round but wound up finishing in third place.
The Senior division ended up in a tie between Steve Baertschi and Milt Yakey. They each fired rounds of 89 and 88. Baertschi one in a scorecard playoff. They didn't want to play anymore holes after having started lunch!
Dan Townsend added a 38 to his first round score of 79 to win by one over Al Welch. Jim Still was another stroke behind.
Bob Wolf captured his first Grand Master's title with his rounds of 80 and 42 (for the 3rd nine). He was 19 strokes better than the ageless Max Gnagy.
Below is the complete set of scores as well as pictures of the winners that hadn't left for home.
