2023 Indiana State Leftys Championship
Results (See full results below)
The 2023 Indiana State Leftys Championship successfully completed all 36 holes this year. Last year the second round was rained out and this year's forecast for the second day was not good. However, all the rain stayed up in the Chicago area and the players enjoyed their second round at Sandy Pines.
Kokomo's Jon Kelley captured his 8th Indiana title with scores of 72 and 78 for a 150 total. He now has a Kentucky title in the 80s and Indiana titles in each of the last 4 decades.
The Master Division was captured by Jim Still with scores of 79 and 75 for a 154 total. Still managed to get past Michigan tournament organizer Bob Wolf with his fine second round.
The Grand Master Division was won by the ageless Max Gnagy. The 91-year-old fired a 79 in the final round leaving former Indiana tournament organizer Jack Hammond and Logan Uhls "in the dust". Max continues to amaze all that play with him. May we all be able to play as well as he does when we get to his age!
Word got from the Texas Lefty tournament organizer Dick Martin to Robert Coffman from Houston, Texas. Robert and his mother Elizabeth travelled from Houston to play in this year's Indiana tournament. Robert is a 15 year-old Sophomore and a member of his high school golf team. After a slow sleep-deprived start, Robert managed to hit some very good golf shots. Robert has only been playing golf for three years. The sky is the limit for the next three years of high school! We hope to see him in future lefty events!
Full results are below along with pictures from the event. Next year's tournament is scheduled for June 8 and 9 at Wildcat Creek in Kokomo. Wildcat Creek has made some fine improvements putting in new Better Billy Bunkers, a pond on hole #14, a stone wall on hole #16 and a few new teeing grounds. The course is always in great shape so make your plans to come to Kokomo next year!
